Styling Double Denim

It was a look many of us vowed never to go near after Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's infamous AMAs macthing double denim ensembles. But it looks like the days of head-to-toe denim being a style no-no are well and truly behind us. The double denim trend is back with a vengeance!
If you're anything like us, many of you probably have your feet firmly planted within your style comfort zones, cringing at the idea of dripping in denim. But by no means do you have to stick to the same denim from head to toe. Our advice? Experiment with contrasting denim washes and colours for a more subtle double denim look. And most importantly, have fun with it!

 Lacey Days
We're always banging on about accessorising, but the right statement necklace really can up your fashionista status. We know that white denim can be a scary thing, especially since tomato sauce always seems to be attracted to it! But white shorts like these are perfect to pair with darker washed denim, and who can resist the lace trimming?!!

Stripe a Pose
Break up your denim pieces by layering them with your favourite basics. Opting for a cropped denim jacket also creates the illusion of longer legs!

Rings: Lovisa

Stonewashed Siren
Play around with textures by mixing acid and stonewashed pieces  or embllished styles, or be adventurous and combine both wtih a top like this. The floral embroidery adds a fenimine touch to the 80s and 90s styled denim.

PopBasic Review: Sunday Collection

Subscription boxes are the latest internet sensation. Whether it's clothes, jewellery, cosmetics or even food, you can get almost anything delivered to your doorstep monthly in little nifty boxes. We're embarrassed to admit that we have never tried one of these subscription boxes before. "Why?" you ask, well because we're not prepared to commit to something that can often be a hit or miss, especially since you don't get to preview the box beforehand. We stumbled across Popbasic a while back and immediately fell in love with the concept behind their monthly collections. Like a subscription box, you still receive stylist picked pieces (in a cute little box of course!), but there aren't any of the other usual strings attached. So we jumped at the opportunity to review and style their Sunday Collection.

The website offers monthly micro collections which centre on the idea of building your wardrobe around timeless and basic (hence the name!) pieces. If you've followed us for long enough, you'll realise by now that we are big advocates of investing in versatile and staple pieces that will carry you across seasons and transcend trends. As we always say, it's all about making the most of your existing wardrobe with smart styling and smart accessorising.

Trust us when we say that this Blueberry Silk Blouse is the softest thing we have ever felt. We've never owned anything that is 100% silk before, so we were quite impressed with the quality. Often, shopping for blouses can be quite a headache for us with our petite build making it difficult for us to find sleeves that fit our arms nicely and blouses that actually look like blouses rather than dresses! So we were relieved when we tried on the blouse. The sizing chart is very true to size. Following the measurement they had online, we ordered an XS, and the blouse fits us perfectly!

As you will see from our outfits, a basic blouse like this is is such a handy piece to own, because it goes with almost anything you throw it at!

We have a slight, ok a big obsession with wishbones, so this ring and bangle set got us really excited! These White Gold plated pieces are the perfect accessories for any and every outfit, which is why we've chosen to include them in all four outfits. It's a shame though that both the ring and bracelet were quite big on us.

Casual Chic
If you're ever in doubt, throw on a pair of light wash denim! A blouse and jeans are the perfect no-fail, no-fuss choice. We love the contrast between the different shades of blue, and of course the much needed pop of colour! Rolled up jeans and a clutch will take you from casual chick to casual chic faster than you can say pop!

Happy
This ensemble screams lazy day at the beach. Just imagine having Pharrel William's Happy cranked up while working on your tan (safely of course!). Whether you want to layer the blouse like we did, or throw it over your cossie, it makes for a great beach cover-up. Again, you might have noticed the light wash denim trend. You can't deny the fact that the navy blue blouse and light denim are a match made in heaven!

Green With Envy
The fitting of the blouse makes it ideal for tucking in to skirts, shorts and pants. While other tops can have you looking frumpy, this silk blouse flatters in all the right places. Here we've changed it up and stepped away from the denim to show you how versatile this piece is. Another tried and true way of styling a basic blouse is to pair it with patterned bottoms. Experiment with loose rather than short form fitting shorts for a more relaxed look.

Shorts: Portmans
Shoes: Betts

Ode to Office
Put a spin on office wear by tucking the blouse into a bright, note bright, high waisted skirt. There is no better way to stand out from the sea of black and white suits than with a splash of colour.

Dressing for work doesn't mean you have to neglect accessorising all together. The subtle White Gold plating makes the wishbone set oh so office appropriate, tying in perfecly with the sliver detailing on the shoes.
*Blouse, bracelet and ring: Popbasic
Earrings: Lovisa
Skirt: Supre

Overall, we were very impressed with this collection and would definitely try out their future collections!

What's Trending

Seasonal trends can be hard to keep track of, but today, most trends transcend seasons. From the much loved monochrome to denim, there a lot of familiar faces in the fashion forecast this year.

So keep on reading to see what is setting the fashion world alight this season!

1. Geometric Prints

These are to the 21st century what the psychedelic tie dye and floral prints were to the 1960's hippie. Don't get us wrong, florals are timeless, but for a modern look, opt for bold geometric prints. As far as this season is concerned, the brighter the better!

Tip: With all those colours, accessorising bright geometric prints can be tricky business. A fail proof approach is to pick out one colour from the print, so we've gone with pale pink. This way you can avoid going OTT!

2. Light Wash Denim

It probably doesn't come as a suprise that denim is once again one of the seasons most coveted pieces. But this time round, the classic blue wash is taking the back seat in favour of it's light-washed cousin. If you buy one new thing this year, make it light wash denim.

Tip: Create contrast by layering light washed denim with darker pieces from your wardrobe. Denim jackets can also look quite boxy and chunky, but to avoid loking like a 90s kid, roll up the sleeve for the relaxed Kate Bosworth-esque look.

Belt: Portmans

3. Sheer

This is another no-brainer! Sheer pieces have been all the rage in recent years, on and off the catwalk. But after last season's embellished sheers, its back to basics with pared back blouses and button ups.

Tip: Styling basics doesn't have to be plain and boring. If you're ever in doubt, there's no better way to spice up your look than to throw on a pair of patterned bottoms.

Style Snag: Olivia Palermo

Last week we were lucky enough to guest blog on FashionVent.com where we gave readers the 101 on how to get Olivia Palermo's look with some wardrobe basics. Today we decided to turn those tips into outfits, and show you how we snagged the fashionista's amazing style!

~

Fashion can be a hard game to play, but one style siren who has her opponents against the wall every time is Olivia Palermo. Whether she’s gracing the red carpet or running errands, this brunette never steps a foot wrong. But don’t worry; you won’t need her megawatt bank account to get her enviable style.
If we’ve learnt anything from style stalking her, it’s that Olivia is a serial recycler when it comes to her fashion choices, but unlike some critics, we applaud her for this. For us, when we look at her outfits, we see a handful of well-loved staples and a whole lot of smart styling and accessorising. Yes, statement pieces are guaranteed to spice up any old outfit, but if you want a wardrobe that will carry you through thick and thin, and from season to season and trend to trend, then staples are your best friends. It’s about investing in tried and true pieces that you know will work with anything you throw at it.
Call it the power of 3, but we’ve brainstormed a trio of wardrobe must-haves that will have you a real contender in the fashion game.

The Chambray:
Comfort meets style is the best way to describe this final must-have. The chambray is a little bit Western and a little preppy.
Tip: Want to know Olivia’s secret for staying on top of her fashion A game? Accessorising. A few key accessories can instantly update your look from season to season. Take note of her penchant for eye-popping statement pieces. Textured accessories like a belt are a great way to push the boundaries.

The Black Blazer:
The black blazer is a true wardrobe workhorse. It offers infinite styling potential which will give you bang for your buck.
Tip: Follow in Olivia’s footsteps and mellow down your look by layering your blazer over a loose, relaxed tee.

The White Blouse:
When it comes to versatility, the white blouse scores off the charts every time. Over a pair of distressed jeans or tucked into a fitted skirt, the white blouse works with just about everything!
Tip: From the office to girls’ night out and everything in between, consider this look as a guide to making the most of your wardrobe basics. Olivia shows us that there are no rules when it comes to fashion. Move over boring trousers and pin skirts! A white blouse paired with some well-fitting shorts or your favourite skirt makes for a power house couple that will take you from work to date night.
